Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies
Description
The Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies is a postsecondary professional degree designed to equip students for effective Christian ministry in local churches, missions, or denominational service. This program requires a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and the completion of 120 semester hours of academic credit for graduation.
Objectives
The Bachelor of Arts program is designed to promote in students growth toward personal maturity and professional ministry competence. The objectives of the program are accomplished through classroom instruction, the modeling of professors, the practice of ministry through the Practical Missions program, chapel services, and student organizations.
The Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies Program seeks to guide students to understand, develop, and utilize the essential skills for ministry in the effective performance of leadership roles in the church, including pastoral ministry, Christian education, and missionary service. This program will develop lifelong patterns of continuing personal spiritual growth and professional development.
Admission Requirements
All applicants must have graduated from high school or received a GED (Graduate Equivalence Diploma).
ACT/SAT Scores
All applicants (including homeschooled students) are required to submit scores from either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). The SAT code for Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary is 7039 and the ACT code is 3934. Applicants who are 24 or older, or have passed 15 hours from (a) a regionally accredited college or (b) a college with SACS accreditation, and have maintained at least a C average, are not required to submit these standardized test scores. (SAT and ACT scores are used as a basis of admission to MABTS to help evaluate a student’s ability to do college level work.)
Completion Requirements
In order to qualify for graduation from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, each student in the Bachelor of Arts program must satisfy the “General Requirements for Graduation” as set forth in the
Catalog. In addition, each student in the Bachelor of Arts program must complete the 120 semester hours of courses specified in the course listing, including 105 semester hours of required core courses and 15 semester hours of electives.
Each student in the Bachelor of Arts program is also required to complete a minimum of 60 semester hours of general education courses concentrating in these areas: the humanities or fine arts, the social or behavioral sciences, the natural sciences or mathematics, and language. The general education courses may be transferred from another postsecondary institution, or they may be completed within the required course structure of the Bachelor of Arts program.
